Open public consultation for modification of the Official Mexican Standard NOM-051-SCFI / SSA1-2010, General labeling specifications for prepackaged non-alcoholic foods and beverages - Commercial and sanitary information

The purpose of this modification of the Official Mexican Standard is to establish the commercial and health information that the labeling of the pre-packaged product of national or foreign manufacture, marketed in national territory, as well as determine the characteristics of said information and establish a frontal label system for the general population, a purpose of informing the consumer in a clear and truthful way about the content of critical nutrients that pose risks to their health in excessive consumption.

Previously the UK authorities indicated the leave from the European Union would have an immediate impact on food labels in case no deal would be negotiated. In the no-deal scenario, prepacked food products would have to include a responsible operator (i.e. manufacturer, importer or distributor) established within the UK from 29 March 2019.
